iPod Touch Review

June 26, 2008

Hey Everyone! Welcome to my first review of a device I always have on hand with me…The iPod Touch! The iPod rocks out bringing together the power of a PDA and the sleek coolness of an iPod tied together with the touch-screen and interface of the iPhone. One sentence review: The iPhone, without the phone part. Ok, let’s get into the real review. It is packed with features, some better than others. Firstly, is the Mail application. It has all of the major webmail providers with easy setup. It is very hard to delete messages which is why I do most of my mass deleting in Gmail’s web interface since I use IMAP for connecting to Gmail on my iPod Touch. As a quick explanation of what IMAP is look at this. Most email servers use POP3 which is like this, if I had my email going via POP3 to my iPod and I downloaded a message to my iPod and then deleted it on my Gmail inbox, it would remain in my iPod until I deleted it there. But with IMAP if I deleted a message in my Gmail, it would also be deleted in my iPod and vice versa. But mass delete will be added into the iPhone 2.0 upgrade available for the iPod Touch for about $10. OK, there are many other features for the iPod Touch but I just want to name my favorite and then talk about the upgrade. You can view the Wikipedia article for the iPod Touch here. So my favorite app for the iPod Touch is the Safari web browser. Safari has a feature that lets you see a full web page in the small 3.5 inch screen. No Flash, though. I was hoping for that in the upgrade. OK, now let’s talk about the iPhone 2.0 upgrade. It adds one thing to the screen of the iPod Touch or iPhone, the App Store. It is a way for developers to sell applications to all devices running iPhone 2.0 software. I thought this was great! A way for Flash to be installed. Until I heard that Apple is going to reject any app that is real-time direction(GPS), plugins(Flash, etc.), or any app that conflicts with any of Apple’s current or future business plans(just about any useful software that Apple can make their on program in that group). Sometimes I think Apple is trying to take over the world. I am so doing a post about Apple takeover. I am putting $20 aside for the upgrade and Super Monkey Ball. Which was announced as one of the first programs.

Ok, well I’m going to wrap it up for this article, come back in a few days to see my top 10 best web apps and mobile sites designed for iPhone and iPod Touch-!
